In the middle of life
we wake up
only to find ourselves
in the middle of an ocean
of abstract concepts
hypotheses
theories
hearsay
mythologies
spiritual visions
opinions
pressures
stories
and our own experience
all of which
roll and flow
throwing us
from side to side
up and down
until we feel
the existential sea-sickness
of our being
how can we get off
this ship
set adrift
so far from solid ground
we need sea-legs
we must find
a center of gravity
all of our own
beyond the ebb and tide
a coastline
to call home
